The Hauntingly Excellent Range
Noah Bullock
Though we are all aware of the biblical Noah and the Ark that he built, not so many people are aware that Derby had its very own Noah and he built his very own Ark on the River Derwent in Derby in the 1670s.

Our Noah had far more nefarious reasons for building his ark though - he was a counterfeiter who wanted to hide his illegal trade from prying eyes.

However despite his best efforts, his illegal schemes were uncovered and he found himself in court facing the death penalty.
Luckily for Noah he had a personal relationship with Sir Simon Degge – the Court Recorder at his trial – and he accepted a deal in which he turned his back on his life of crime in return for a pardon.
Noah's ghost is said to haunt the Noah's Ark Inn on the Morledge.

LOCATION: Noah's Ark Inn, Morledge, Derby DE1 2AW

CONNECTION: Named after Noah Bullock, this pub was established in the first half of the 1700s. For 30 years it operated alongside another pub bearing the same name until in 1873 the adjacent pub changed its name. The only concession made to avoid confusion during that lengthy period was adding ‘Old’ to the title, in 1852 - this has now been dropped.

LOCATION: Derby River Gardens

CONNECTION: Nestled behind the Morledge are the Derby River Gardens and the River Derwent itself. In its entirety the River Derwent is 50 miles (80 km) long and is a tributary of the River Trent, which it joins south of Derby. It was here, on the part of the river that lays behind the Morledge, that Noah built the ark that hid his criminal activities but was also ultimately almost responsible for his death.
